AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts

The AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts is New England's oldest and largest AIDS organization. Since it was created in 1983, AIDS Action has served one of every two Massachusetts residents who have ever been diagnosed with AIDS. AIDS Action's mission is three-fold: to provide support services for people living with AIDS and HIV; to educate the public and health professionals about HIV transmission, treatment and prevention; and to advocate for fair and effective AIDS policy at the city, state and federal levels. Nearly 67 percent of donated time and money goes directly to client services, community education, HIV prevention programs and public advocacy.

The Fenway provides high quality, comprehensive health care in a welcoming environment. The health center seeks to improve the overall health of the larger community, locally and nationally, through education and training, policy and advocacy, and research and evaluation.

The services provided by Fenway Community Health in Boston include primary health care, specialty care (HIV/AIDS, obstetrics, gynecology, gerontology, podiatry and nutritional counseling), mental health and addictions services, complementary therapies (chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture), health promotion, violence prevention and recovery, family and parenting services, including alternative insemination.

Fenway also conducts a variety of clinical drug trials in its medical department. In 1996, Fenway participated in the state’s first lesbian health services study and provided testimony at the national hearing on lesbian health research issues. In July of 2000, Fenway Community Health was named an HIV Prevention and Treatment Network (HPTN) site by the National Institutes of Health.

AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod

The mission of the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod is to provide services to persons living with HIV and AIDS within Cape Cod Communities that maintain and enhance their quality of life, and provide health education and prevention information to Barnstable County via timely and accurate information about STD's, HIV and AIDS. The services and outreach will be consumer driven and family centered, however family is defined.

The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod is Cape Cod's largest AIDS Service Organization. It was founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1985 as the Provincetown AIDS Support Group, a grass roots community-founded agency responding to the AIDS epidemic in Provincetown. The ASGCC is now the lead agency for the Tri-County AIDS Consortium (under the Ryan White Care Act Title II), which includes all of Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. In 1995, the ASGCC began construction on the Cape's first housing facility for people with AIDS, Foley House. In 1996, the ASGCC expanded across the Cape, opening up two satellite offices to provide services to people with HIV. These affiliate offices operated under the PASG as the Upper Cape AIDS Network in Falmouth, and Cape AIDS Resource Exchange and Services in Yarmouth. In 2002,the Boards of Directors of the CARES and UCAN offices voted to merge, officially becoming part of the Provincetown AIDS Support Group. The organization name was changed from Provincetown AIDS Su p p ort Gr oup to the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC) to more accurately reflect the services provided by the agency to people with HIV/AIDS living on Cape Cod.

ASGCC operates a variety of programs, including: weekday transportation to Boston medical centers for people, case management, lunch and dinner programs, access to state and federal housing programs, mental health services, entitlements counseling and advocacy, a needle exchange program, prevention/outreach programs, and the 10-unit supported housing program. The current caseload is approximately 240 clients on the Lower Cape, 100 clients and 130 clients on the Mid and Upper Cape.In addition to a paid full-time staff of 22 professionals, the ASGCC utilizes the services of a number of licensed clinicians, social workers, per diem and seasonal employees, and over 300 volunteers across Cape Cod.
